shotgun in dublin
As soon as Victor and I landed in Dublin we hopped in the rental car and tried to get adjusted to the right side of the road, traffic and Gaelic.

i believe he is 72...

Sara:
I learned how to drive a manual while I was living in England. The very first time was when I was in Wales and I had to drive, on the right side of the road, on the right side of the car, shifting with my left hand down this tiny winding mountain road with a cliff to the right and a giant mountain to left and semi trucks going fast as hell all around me. YIKES.
Then I lived in Dublin and had to deal with their crazy driving, too.

Kayla B.:
Haha! That is so funny!! Thanks for sharing. I also love the photo on Victor's blog of you bustling the bride's dress. :-D
(09.02.08 06:10 PM)
Amy Martin:
Fun times! Thinking about driving a stick shift on the left side freaks me out!
(09.02.08 05:15 PM)
Kenny Kim:
Dude that was a fun video. Thanks for sharing! :) wow, if it's not bad enough to drive on the passenger side, you guys had to drive stick?! :)

ireland: off the top of my head
The warmth of the Sun peeked through the throw blanket of cloud cover for the first time all week as Victor and I trekked to Dingle, Ireland. We managed to cover the width of the country in my first ever visit to the island. Tomorrow we shoot the wedding but our travels up to this point have been adventurous.A. Driving has been quite entertaining...near collision experiences abound as Victor tends the wheel (from the opposite side of the car) and I decipher the numerous maps.
B. Brazen Head pub...supposedly serving brew since 1198, it's Ireland's oldest pub and quite quaint and nostalgic. I did fish 'n chips here. Classic.
C. Guinness Storehouse tour...this tour of the Guinness factory was one of my favorite segments of the trip. So much history behind Ireland's most famous porter. I learned how to pour my own pint...I'm a pro now.
D. The Fitzsimmons pub in the Temple Bar/Barf district was the only place Victor and I could mooch free wifi. We often found ourselves enjoying a pint of Smithwick's and responding to emails via iPhones while enjoying LIVE covers of U2, Oasis, Sno Patrol and The Beatles. Wonderwall is still a rad song.
E. Victor has this thing when booking hotel rooms where he thinks a "double" bed is two beds in a single room...when in fact it's a "full" bed in a single room. Due to this technicality in understanding, we shared a full size bed the fist night in Dublin. You have my permission to laugh.
F. I've never gone nine rounds with Jet Lag...seriously, who's he been training with???
G. I finally got to use a Dyson Airblade to dry my hands while at the Guinness Storehouse. AWE-SUM!
H. I linked up with Janine Walker, a photographer from Northern Ireland, in Dublin for a shoot. I love meeting new people via my blog in person!
I. The best slice West of Italy can be found at Gruel in Dublin, Ireland. Hands down the most incredible pizza to ever touch my lips!!!
So that's what's going on in the Irish Summer Time zone. Cheers!
Aaron:
Seriously, thanks for sharing your Irish adventures. I seriously LOVE Ireland. I've been meaning to get back there for some time now. Awesome, awesome...
(08.29.08 11:49 PM)
Christina:
Despite the jet lag, you've managed to cover a lot :) Enjoy the Irish weather for us Texans not so fortunate to escape it...
(08.29.08 09:17 AM)

BRILLIANT!

Chantal:
Ahhh! I spent two of the BEST summers of my life in Ireland....the Brazendhead and Temple Bar were my favorite hang outs!! I hope you post more photos from your shoot around Dublin. It is, hands down, my favorite city in the world!!

Austin City Limits is less than a month away and I'm pretty excited to be experiencing my first one...I know, I've lived in Texas all this time-what's wrong with me??? I have no excuse other than festivals haven't really been my scene...until now. Once I return with some photos, then the jury will be in on the experience. Until then, I threw this playlist together of the artists I'm looking forward to seeing in Austin, TX (exit RSS readers to view the iMix).
kellybeane:
How awesome!! I would absolutely LOVE to see Mates of State and Iron&Wine. You're officially cool (lol. okay you were totally cool already)... i'm just sayin.... ;)

James Dvorscak:
Additional survival tips for ACL Fest: buy a camelbak and throw it in a backpack. Bring a bandana -- wet, it'll keep your head (or neck) cool, or in a pinch, act as a dust mask.

amancay:
ugh, you make me leave my rss feeder with your tantalizing mixes... *shakes fist in feigned annoyance*
(08.27.08 06:44 PM)
Nicola Dixon:
Hope you're enjoying Ireland. Patty Griffin is one of my all time faves, very jealous. You were probably privy to some of her music when we were driving through the English countryside. x

AB:
WOHOO!!!! it's COMIN' SOON!!! it's going to knock our SOCKS off!
(08.27.08 01:02 PM)
Jess:
you are going to LOVE it! My first one was in 2004 - first semester at UT. 3 days of non-stop, on-your-feet, badass music :) Just take a hat, shades, buy tons of water, bring a backpack to carry all of that water, and wear shorts and a tank - seriously, when you get closer to the stages, everyone is arm to arm, basically spooning. Everyone's friendly, though! You should try and see Mason Jennings - he's amazing live.
(08.27.08 12:30 AM)
John:
If you get a chance, also check out Robert Earl Keen and Drive By Truckers. Looking forward to your photos and followup!

JAmie Delaine:
I watch Austin City Limits every Saturday night on the Public Broadcast Station...LOVE ITTT! Sufjan was on there a couple of years ago, and I PVR'd it. I swear I watched the whole hour about 26 times.

Katherine <<< Vic is sitting right here...he says hello :-) As far as a Mammoth Man Ireland version? I might have a video to show you guys when we return-LOL...it involves driving on the opposite side of the road, a foreign city and a stick shift Toyota.
(08.26.08 03:09 PM)
Katherine Robertson:
How great is that! I love Vic as well, he spoke at our Dallas PPA meeting a year or so ago!
How about a Mammouth Man Ireland version???
(08.25.08 10:02 PM)

If you are quoting FES then you are my new favorite person, if you are quoting somone else, you are still pretty cool!! Have fun, looking forward to some pictures!

Every time I'm on the phone with Barbara from Pacific Weddings, I find myself wishing I could pull a Freaky Friday so I could selfishly be topless on the North Shore. Until I book a Hawaiian wedding (hint, hint), I've tossed together a mix that helps me cope. On a more lackadaisical day, I'd just listen to all my Jack Johnson albums straight though to cure my yearning for the Aloha State; however, what kind of mix would that be???
Jamie Delaine is my 800th commenter and will receive $10 in an iTunes or Amazon gift certificate...it pays to give your two cents :-)

Here's 10 songs that take me to a place like Hawaii (please exit your RSS readers ummm now) ...where I can imagine the North Shore outside my window.

Kimberly Brian:
Hey Fred - I think you would like this. Check out IMEEM.COM, really cool music sight.
(08.19.08 11:32 AM)
FRED EGAN:
Poser <<< Yeah I like Jaymay...good vibe to her tunes...raw. You should also check out Noah and the Whale on this mix.
(08.14.08 05:15 PM)
FRED EGAN:
Barbara <<< Totally, I'm looking forward to it! ALOHA :-)
(08.14.08 04:32 PM)
Jennifer Skog:
Dude! I've been listening to I'm yours all day today... literally. on repeat. love it!
(08.14.08 01:14 AM)
Barbara:
When you book your Hawaii wedding, you have to come by and meet the gang at Pacific WEDDINGS. We are such big fans!
(08.13.08 03:58 PM)
Poser:
the sleeper of this mix is definitely jaymay. i didnt know you were into her. one of my favorite female artists.
(08.13.08 01:39 PM)

Please be jealous of me, as I am going to see my man Jack Johnson in concert (for the second time) this Friday in Bonner Springs! :) :) :) When I was at the North Shore in Oahu a few years ago (yes, I am trying to sound cool here) I looked everywhere for Jack, but didn't find him. :( Too bad--it would've been nice to meet him, considering he IS my husband and all (sorry, Chantal)! ;)
(08.13.08 02:18 AM)
Katie:
Haha trust me, not listening to the radio is a GOOD thing! :) it's when you're trapped in an office with the same station playing all day that it becomes lethal...
(08.12.08 08:42 PM)
FRED EGAN:
Katie <<< Sorry :-/ I don't really listen to radio so I wouldn't know ;-)
(08.12.08 04:37 PM)
Katie:
aw shoot. i love jason but that song has been played so many times on the radio it's almost ruined. loving matt costa though!!
(08.12.08 04:33 PM)
Shaunna :
ah, the new conor oberst is on steady rotation. sounds like you need some ziggy marley in your life, "beach in hawaii"!
(08.12.08 02:08 PM)
Jamie Delaine:
I LOVE JASON MRAZ! Just thought I'd shout that out. He's coming to Vancouver on November 8 and I already bought tickets in the presale last week. Lovely.
(08.12.08 01:48 PM)
jessigene:
Are you seriously trying to get me to feel sorry for you and your "lack of travelling"??? Geez it must really suck to only get to go to California and Ireland within a few weeks... :D I want that $10.
(08.12.08 01:39 PM)
September:
A trip to Hawaii could be yours IF the price is right.
(08.12.08 01:36 PM)
FRED EGAN:
Lynn <<< Sink your feet into the North Shore sand for me!
(08.12.08 11:23 AM)
Chantal:
any mix with Jack Johnson is gonna be good.....he's actually my boyfriend ;)
(08.12.08 08:51 AM)
Nicole:
My husband and I went to Hawaii this spring, and the North Shore of Oahu was by far our favorite. You have good taste!
(08.12.08 08:42 AM)
Melissa:
Hey Fred, I wish I was in Hawaii too...being up here in Canada has its perks, but after 24 full days of rain in July (and continuing into August) sucks! :(
(08.12.08 07:34 AM)
Bob P.:
I think "Rodeo Clowns" by G. Love and Jack Johnson would fit nicely in that mix. Love the Jason Mraz!

off the top of my head...
"I love being in love" has just been granted its 15 minutes of fame in my extensive archive of favorite movie lines. This comes courtesy of a flick I can't bring myself to type in the annals of the world wide web solely for the fact that I don't want Google matchmaking "FRED EGAN" with a movie that rhymes with "The Motherhood of Babbling Aunts...2" The context of the quote was delivered in a caravan of questions such as, "Do you think there's just one person out there we're meant to love?" and "Have you ever been in love?" The answer from which I mine my new aphorism.
I love being in love.
High as a kite...low as a backstab...and everywhere in between. Being in love makes me feel alive...it makes me feel, period. I love it...just off the top of my head.
Gustavo :
Go see Bottle Shock, it's a great film. My friends produced it and i got to cover the premier here in SF. It's a real life story and getting to hear from them at the event was pretty neat. Pics here...http://www.flickr.com/photos/gafl/sets/72157606586874216/
(08.12.08 01:48 PM)
FRED EGAN:
Chantal <<< Guys who love LOVE ;-)
(08.12.08 11:21 AM)
FRED EGAN:
Stacy <<< That makes me feel a "little" better ;-)
(08.12.08 11:14 AM)
FRED EGAN:
Lyndsey <<< I'm not sure what's a greater accomplishment: getting you to come out of the woodworks to comment or you making me blush...? Thanks Lindsey :-)
(08.12.08 11:13 AM)
FRED EGAN:
Katherine <<< I saw the previews for Bottle Shock and it looks like a great film with an emotional journey. Plus, I love movies about California! We'll be getting together for another meeting soon, stay tuned and I'll announce it here :-)
(08.12.08 11:11 AM)
Chantal:
i don't know whats better...LOVE, or guys who love LOVE. fred egan really IS for lovers :)
(08.11.08 11:27 PM)
Katherine Robertson:
Fred, you are so cute! so honest and open! If you really liked Babbling Aunts... you might like the new movie Bottle Shock, which is set in 1976 and tells the story of the California wine vs French wine, and it also throws in a really nice love story! More of a guys movie, so you might like to check it out! Are you still doing the Misfits group? would love to attend if you do...Katherine
(08.11.08 11:00 PM)
Lynsey Peterson:
Oh Fred Egan. I never comment, but I just have to now. You kind of rock for saying this. And I love you more today than I loved you yesterday. And that's saying a lot because I really liked you yesterday. :)
(08.11.08 10:30 PM)
Adrianna:
Me too... makes me smile just thinking about it
(08.11.08 01:47 PM)
Stacy Reeves:
Well, if it makes you feel any better, it's also a line from an awesome song ("Inches and Falling") by an awesome band (The Format). "I love love / I love being in love / I don't care what it does to me" :)
(08.11.08 01:03 PM)
FRED EGAN:
Jamie <<< I saw it after one of my girl friends saw Dark Knight with me...movie double header. It was entertaining...in a chick flick kind of way. I was one of three guys in the theatre :-/ Needless to say I was wearing my hoodie.
(08.11.08 11:57 AM)
Jamie Delaine:
I love that you have seen that movie. Hilarious. You make me laugh!
