It's been 10 days since I began my 30-day pesco-vegetarianism challenge (a diet abstaining from eating the flesh of land animals) and I'm feeling pretty good. Studies show it takes at least 21 days to form a habit...I can actually see myself prescribing to this for the rest of my life. Why?
Five reasons:
- Simplification...It's actually easier to make choices in what to eat.
- Health...There are findings that red meat is detrimental to health in many cases due to non-lean red meats containing high amounts of saturated fats, aka. I feel FREAKIN' good!
- Energy Efficient...Red meat as a food source is inefficient. The amount of calories in the grain needed to feed a cow, pig or chicken (to a lesser extent) greatly exceeds the nutritional value of the meat these animals provide. Were this grain to be used for human consumption instead, far more food could be provided.
- Ethics...I feel better about not eating mass market "meat" mammals (most of which are not free range).
- Bowel Movements...I actually heard my colon thank me the other day (and yes, I just went there).
Most importantly, I am feeling good, my body feels good and I am not experiencing a diet shock since I'd eaten pretty healthy up to this point (thank you Chipotle). FYI...drink more water. I cut out sodas from my diet 12 years ago and have basically stuck to water & juice since then. You'll be amazed how many pounds you drop by simply doing this ;-)

So uh, yeah. Definitely meant to post that last comment on the biz card post, obviously.
On this topic though, I need to go buy some fish! I've been needing a good clean source of more protein...
